Internet connection problem with IE 7

Jun 12, 2007 6:35AM PDT

Have IE 7 on XP/SP2

I can ping yahoo and other sites, so DNS is not a problem.

But when I try to go outside with a browser, nothing happens. When I run the diagnostic it is telling me the following:

"Cannot connect to the Internet using HTTP, HTTPS or FTP caused by firewall setting. Check the firewall setting for HTTP port 80."

I am going through a wireless Router and it makes no difference with the firewall setting on Windows.

I have two other computers connecting to the same router and they are fine.

Any ideas out there ?

Thanks

There was no issue with IE 6

After I upgraded to the latest version of XP and IE, started having these problems.

Now there's a clue. Eject all BHO's.

Again, a little short on clues but I'd just delete all BHO's you see with HIJACKTHIS.

Rerun WINSOCKXPFIX and retest.

Adware ran clean
Jun 12, 2007 7:17AM PDT

Thanks for the quick feedback.

Adware didn't find anything.

Yahoo IM is connecting through also.

Very strange, has to be some F* virus.

Will let you know once I resolve it.

Problem fixed w with Reg cure
Jun 12, 2007 8:09AM PDT

Downloaded and ran this registry fix software, called Regcure and it fixed a bunch of things, including the Hijack issue, not sure what and who was causing the problem.

Recommend folks to run this and fix their problems.

Sorry I can't reccomend that.

I've had the opposite occur (more damage than before.)

I never read what you did about BHOs so that may remain a mystery.
