Internet connection problem

Feb 20, 2011 1:25AM PST

I am not sure whether this is the correct forum as I don't know whether the problem is in the computer or the Belkin N Wireless Modem Router.

The Computer is a Mac OS 10.6.6

I installed the modem about a week or so ago and it worked fine until this morning. Now, when I switch it on the internet light flashes amber and does not allow access to the internet. I have re-installed my old Voyager 2091 which is working perfectly (hence my being able to connect the forum!), but I would prefer to use the newer Belkin.

Can anyone help?

When the Internet light flashes

it means that the router (it is not a modem) cannot, or is not, communicating with the modem.

Usual fix is to power down the router by removing the power cord and doing the same with the Modem.

Power up the modem, and when it is ready, plug the power back into the router.

No joy!

I have contacted the Belkin help desk over this problem, but, after three lengthy emails from them and having followed all their guidance, I still get no contact. However, taking into account that the Belkin router will not work on either of my two computers (one is a MAC and the others a Windows XP) and also that my old router works perfectly on both, it seems likely too me that the router itself has a fault.
Rather than waste any more time on it, I have decided to cut my losses and dump the router!

Many thanks for you comments

Is that Belkin Wireless N one of those

that has a lifetime warranty?

If you have only recently purchased this router, take it back to the store for a replacement or a refund.

It's not all that new!

I bought it in October 2009, although haven't used it all that much. I had hoped it would have a bigger range than my old one (I live in an old cottage with thick stone walls) but it didn't, so I put it away. My only reason for getting it out again is that it is prettier than the old one!

I have over come the thick walls by with one of those devices which carries the signal through the electricity circuit, so I can now use the internet in any room in the house. If I had got the Belkin going I would probably have given my old one away - but it is not worth bothering about it any more
