That's what trial software is for. To find out if the software works. In this case it's broken and does not work for you. Find other software.
I recently installed some software (nikon capture nx2, trial version) when I launch it I am presented with a splash screen and the choice of either continuing or registering it. When I try to continue I get a message saying it needs an internet connection and that's as far as I can get, even when I'm actually connected. All my other software can connect without any problems for updates and such. I've tried turning off my firewall and antivirus but that doesn't make any difference, and I'm running out of ideas! Any help much appreciated. Running Win XP-SP2 btw.
