Internet connection Help?!?!?!?

Computer: Windows XP (SP2)
ISP: Windstream (previously Alltel)
DSL/Broadband or dial up: DSL/Broadband
Firewall: Norton AntiVirus
The little box that is connected to the computer that has the little lights that flash is called Speedstream.

THE PROBLEM: I can connect to the Internet but when I download applications like games that require an internet connection the say things like: internet connection cannot be found or something to that matter.
