Question

Internet connection erratic behaviour

Apr 6, 2016 2:54AM PDT

I have a problem with my laptop and using the internet. If i start the machine up, it can access the internet fine for perhaps an hour or so then will stop loading pages outside Google/Youtube and some other https sites. It will give me the google results, but the clicking on the links will all time out. The only way i have found to solve this is to fully reboot the machine, it is not happening with other devices within the household, and still happens on outside networks to this specific machine. So it is something to do with whatever the settings i have, but cant isolate what could be the cause on my own and cant find any info online.

If anybody has any ideas on this bizare issue, please let me know. Its so frustrating having to reboot so often. Thankyou

No make model OS given.
Apr 6, 2016 9:32AM PDT

While I've seen this many times the fix is rarely the same. These include.
1. Driver updates.
2. Canned air cleaning.
3. Removing some protection suites.
4. Changing the WiFi card.
5. Calling the laptop a dud and returning it.

There are more to that list but what you learn is the issue is all over the map for the solution.

How much room left on hard drive?
Apr 9, 2016 7:19AM PDT

Sounds like having a cache or pagefile filling up and not enough room left. Windows needs a few GB's of room, so sometimes can do this even with 10 GB left on the drive. Have you gotten any messages about lack of drive space? Are you running any encryption like Bit Locker?

Just a test

What happens?

The same problem persists with wired connection.

Another test

If this problem occurs with both wired and wireless and it effects all browsers I would think your further back in the machine.

Start with the canned air daily for a week.

If there is an access panel on the back or the back comes off that will give you better access for cleaning.

Here is an image of the problem.

On the far left you can see that it is possible to ping the sites trustedreviews, sportsbet.

but you can see when i try to access the sites directly they "cant be reached"

Google works fine and i searched for trusted reviews and it came up with the corresponding links and images but none can be opened.

Does this help at all?
