Question

Internet Bandwith Limitation

Sep 5, 2018 9:57AM PDT

Hi,

So some months ago I have bought a new PC and since the first day, I have some problems with my internet connection. I have exactly the same cable setup as with my previous PC but this time I can't get more than 3,5-4 Mbps download speed. I have checked several times, my phone, at the same time gives out about 40-60 Mbps through WIFI. Additionally, I have checked my router and it shows that 100 Mbps are allocated to the PC and are theoretically should be used by it. My prediction was that there is some software that limits my traffic but I couldn't figure out what exactly as I haven't downloaded anything myself.

I'm running Windows 10 64bit
Core I5 8400 2,80 GHz
GTX 1060
Router KabelBox

The make and model is missing.

So I can't get into specifics but do try the maker's latest BIOS and drivers for the motherboard and WiFi.

Also, be sure you are about 10 to 20 feet from your router, your router has current firmware and you test with an Ethernet cable.

Answer
Have the Wifi and Ethernet adapters checked

Along with having the drivers checked to see if they are correct, the Wifi and Ethernet adapters should be checked by the store you purchased the computer from. If the computer was bought online, a local computer repair shop would be able to assist you. The firmware of your KabelBox router likely has an updated firmware. However, it does not hurt to verify this. Most likely, the adapter for Wifi is in need of being checked. Your phone is connecting with the router well at 40-60 Mbps. So your router is looking good.
