Internet Access via Cell Phone and Powerbook

May 2, 2005 9:53AM PDT

Has anyone had any success with using a Cell Phone, as the modem to connect to the Internet, with a PowerBook.(any version)
I'm guessing that the setup would be something like, Cell Phone/Connecting Cable/PowerBook USB port.
Cell phone type and wireless provider would be helpful information.

Thanks

Nothing

As you can see, I was underwhelmed with responses. However, I did figure out a solution.
Take one BlueTooth capable phone, One BlueTooth enabled powerbook and sync them together. Find an ISP who has a local number, or get a cell phone with loads of free minutes, preferably long distance minutes.
Configure the Mac to use the internal modem to dial your ISP's number.
With any luck, once you push the dial button, the modem hits the bluetooth phone and dials out.
I have seen it work once before the user, who wanted the answer to the original question, went off to Alaska with the setup.
He is due back shortly.
I'll let you know the results

I used a Qualcomm cellphone with their cable using Verizon's service. It was VERY slow, about equivalent to a 14.4 modem but it DID work.

Cell and Tiger
Jul 19, 2005 4:32PM PDT

For several years I have used Verizon's national access with my PBG4 and mobile office. I have upgraded to Tiger and my computer does not recognize my Motorola V710. I am now searching for an answer to my present situation. I think that Verizon has made changes at the same period that I installed Tiger.
