You turn on your PC and get the desktop. Then gradually the system notification area (bottom right, next to the clock) begins to fill as your antivirus and firewall and other start-up programs are starting. How long is the total time till everything is up and running?

Then you start any program (like Notepad or even MS Word). How long does that take?

Then you start Internet Explorer (or Firefox for that matter, you don't even tell that). What is your home page (the first page shown)? How long does it take before it's shown?

Then you close your browser and open it again. How long before showing the home page?

Now set your homepage to be an empty page and repeat the whole experiment (starting with a fresh boot). How long does it take to show your old home page if you type the address in the address bar? And the second time?

Now reboot into Safe Mode with network support (be sure your Windows Firewall is turned on) and repeat the experiment again.

Post your detailed findings please.

Hi Kees,

When I turn on my pc, everything comes up pretty quiq exept the network. when I look at the bottom right, I see the network notification with a red croos on top of it and it says " Network not connected". I am able to acces everything else.
I don't have to do anything. After about 20 minutes the Network is connected by itself, then I can acces my e-mail and the internet.
This happen every time I reboot the pc.

-> Dial-up/DSL/cable?
-> Wired or wireless?
-> Security protocols followed?
-> How are IP addresses assigned?

Something's likely amiss with the network setup. For the time being you can run ipconfig /release followed by ipconfig /renew from the command line, but if this is anything other than a home network I would start by contacting the IT desk.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
