Somewhere here. While the forum came down with "use another card reader" the member was insisting the internal card reader be fixed. Since you've done the usual the next steps are:
1. Use an external card reader.
2. Restore the OS as it came from the factory (can be fatal to files that people can't recover.)
3. Make it a warranty issue.
Yesterday the internal memory card reader on my Gateway 7508gx laptop suddenly stopped working.
Here are the specs of my 7508gx...
Windows XPSP2 Home
Athalon 3400+ cpu
80gb 7200rpm hd
2 gb ram
ATI Radeon Mobility X600 gpu w/64 mb of video ram/256mb thru hyper memory.
CD/DVD Dual Layer Burner
6 in 1 media card reader (slot1-sd,mmc,ms,mspro slot2-cf types I and II)
The way the reader worked previous to my problem was you stuck a media card in a slot the remove hardware icon would show up in the system tray. Then depending upon the settings for auto play in the properties of the drive it will either play or ask you to chose an action. The icons for the drives were listed under hard disc drives when you clicked on my computer. If the card was taken out, the safely disconnect hardware icon from the system tray would disappear as well as the icons under hard disc drives when I clicked on my computer.
The card reader stopped working all together. I installed, uninstalled, and reinstalled the driver with no change.
Now today it is working, but very differently than it is supposed to. When I boot the computer the safely remove hardware icon is in the system tray from the start. The media card slots are now listed under devices with removable storage instead of hard disc drives when my computer is clicked. It will read media. If I click on the safely remove hardware the card reader won't work again until I reboot. It is acting much like an external media reader. The icons also changed themselves. From the generic icons to actual pictures of either compact flash,ms, or sd cards.
I am totally confused. I would be much happier if I could figure out how to get it to work as it used to. If anyone could help me they will have my never ending gratitude!
