Said softwares do have an burn emulation mode that would do as you wrote but there are other common reasons such as a failed drive or bum media.
-> One of the nastier issues I ran into was a CD/DVD drive emulator. It wrecked some havoc causing no burning issues.
Remember that an external USB DVDRW is about 25 bucks here. Cheaper and a better idea in the long run.

hi
I have a Toshiba c855-iw7,running win 8.1.the problem I am having is no matter what program i use I cant burn dvds or cds.I try to burn dvds with convertxtodvd and use the onboard nero 12 program to burn cds.the burner starts the program and runs to completion saying successful burn on all occasions but when i check the discs are still blank.I have tried uninstalling closing down windows and when it opens it has reinstalled.I have looked online for latest driver it says up to date.its a cdrom dvd writer tsstcorp cddvdwsn-208ab,I have changed discs and still nothing. At the minute im using an external dvd writer and when i burn with this i can play with internal dvd drive any ideas Ive tried everything and it says all is fine with burner.
