Intermittent Problem with firmware 2.5 on BDP-1590

by robz / December 29, 2009 1:11 PM PST

Just picked up the BDP-1590 over the weekend, had issues with the remote and constant freezing during power up. Contacted Samsung support who suggested doing the firmware upgrade. On 2nd attempt upgrade went through.

Remote issues are gone (changed batteries but no more delay when pushing buttons) On power up unit still freezes with display showing "load" but not 100% of the time. If the unit freezes, I power off the unit and power it back on and the unit powers up properly taking me to the menu with full functionality. This was not happening before the upgrade. My question is it worth returning it, contacting Samsung for further support or is there another step I can take to fully solve the issue. Quality and the rest of the features on the unit (netflix, youtube, pandora) seem to be functioning fine.

Same Intermittent Problem
by jrichlen / January 4, 2010 1:37 AM PST

I too am experiencing the intermittent "LOAD" characters after the firmware update. Unfortunately, didn't really use the player before performing the update, updated nearly out of the box with the internet connection established. I also have random disc read problems with standard commercial DVD discs. Some times it manifests with random skipping (audio and video). Other times it shows up as a screen of wild colored pixels. The sound and image is "there" but it looks like a psychedelic version and can?t really make out what is being displayed.

It's going back today for an exchange, I'll at least try a second unit, but if the results are the same, I'll be going to a different brand. Very disappointing, I really wanted to match the BluRay player to my Samsung HD TV.

I post again with the ?new? results on unit #2.

I have the same unit. It should not behave the way it does. Exchange it first if you like the unit otherwise. If the problem persists, take it back for a full refund. I had a unit with a shot front-USB. Exchanged it for a new one - works great ever since with 2.05 FW.

Just my 2c...
