You need to access your ADMIN page(s) of your router to check your setting for the lease time for the IP address of your computer. See page 33 and 34 of your router's user manual.
It sounds as though you may have the lease time set for 'one day' instead of 'forever'.
Reread your user manual for the router to be sure you have it set up correctly.
Hi everybody,
I have a home network with four Dell computers running Windows XP. I am using a Belkin Cable/DSL Gateway Router, model #F5D5231-4, with the latest firmware upgrade. I am also using a Scientific/Atlanta Webstar cable modem, model #DPC2100, with Adelphia cable internet.
At least once every day and usually twice, the network goes down. All I have to do is unplug the power on the back of the router, wait thirty seconds and plug it back in, and the router resets itself and I have my network back up. This daily unplugging can't be good for the router.
This has become a daily hassle, and I have to keep the peace with my three teenagers and my wife. I contacted Belkin tech support, and they told me that the problem probably lies in one of the computers, either software or hardware. What could be knocking out the network, and how should I go about troubleshooting this problem? I am at a loss, and really need some help.
Thank you for your time!
Danny
