Intermittent Display Driver Failures

by Krahe / August 14, 2007 12:18 PM PDT

I just recently hooked up a new 20" LCD. Sometimes when I boot up I find the resolution is all screwed up. I look in Display/Settings/Advanced/Monitor, and see it says "Default Monitor" rather than the LG driver it's supposed to. I try to "Add Hardware" and there's an exclamation next to the video card (Nvidia Geforce 7600GS). I reinstall the drivers for the Geforce and everything goes back to normal, but I have no idea what the cause is or when it's going to happen again, only that it most likely will. This has happened 5 or 6 times since I got the new monitor. I don't see any pattern to the failures. Does anyone have any idea?

Any help is appreciated. Thank you.
