Question

Intermittent BSOD - causing PC to restart

Sep 11, 2016 4:18AM PDT

Hi Team,
Writing this post to find an answer to BSOD error in my PC. I have windows 7 in my PC(this was re-installed around 1.5 months back).
I have been facing intermittent BSOD's in my PC since last 2 weeks.

I have tried verifying the dump file using BlueScreenViewer & the driver causing this looks to be ntoskrnl.exe. The error is "Critical_Object_Termination" & error code - 0x000000f4.

I have been trying to find a solution for it, but online search shows there can be couple of reasons for this error including hardware & driver issues.

I am new to BSOD's. Can someone please let me know, the exact cause of this error.

Also, I see this happening intermittently (sometimes after couple of days), when performing certain tasks like - Scanning PC with installed antivirus(Bitdefender Internet Security I my case), or opening PDF doc. in my browser. Just thought of sharing this info. as well, if there happens to be some connection with this.

Your assistance is greatly appreciated & Thanks in advance..

The BSOD code does not tell us what the cause was. It's just one part of the pile of clues we use to fix the PC. You can google 0xF4 and there you find hundreds of causes. Some of them are heat, others hardware or malware.

Your new to BSOD troubleshooted are in for a rough first ride.

If you can, supply a SPECCY Report. Here's how.

You used another method so I'll check it out later.

As to the Dump files, those are for you and Microsoft to work on. Rarely used elsewhere.

Re: System info & BSOD dump files

The reason for re-install was a probable failing harddrive(WD 500GB). THe system is custom built with core I3 processor & Intel motherboard., 4GB DDR3 RAM. It also has Linux OS on it that occupies some memory, but I do not use that now.

I had done a reinstall after system hanging issues earlier & post that the system has been working well for 1.5 months. But, recently I have been facing this BSOD issue.

Exact system info. & BSOD dump files can be found in this link where they are uploaded :

Can you please look into those & share some info. that can help.

Thanks,
Dinesh

Just picking over Speccy report.

BUT FIRST. You and I might NEVER know the exact cause. We can go over possible causes but the industry is not about to instrument PCs with enough detail to nail the cause. We remove what we've seen in the past or if the client is adamant you send them to Microsoft.

1. The BIOS looks very dated at BEH6110H.86A.0020.
The latest is .0120. Try https://downloadcenter.intel.com/product/54876/Intel-Desktop-Board-DH61WW

2. The video driver looked outdated too. Back to Intel for that. Should be version 9, 10 or later. Yours is version 6.x.x.x

3. This does look like what you see when someone installs Windows 7 but skips drivers from the machine's maker. Here it looks like an Intel board so use Intel's latest.

What program did you use to open that file?

Elaborating the share info.

You mean the files that are uploaded right.?
Those contain .dmp files from Windows after BSOD errors occurred.
Also, are present some screenshots taken from "BlueScreenViewer" from Nirsoft. I used it, to view my BSOD error cause.

The other file is an xml file generated from Speccy for you to view the system specifications.

Let me know, if I didn't understand your question correctly. Happy

Thanks

Dump files are for you and Microsoft.

It's a shame the Speccy is not in Speccy since the long dump is just that.

I did see outdated basic items which tells us it could be an older PC that needs a do over with BIOS, cleaning and heatsink compound as well as a general check for bad caps and an assessment of the PSU rating and loads.

Thanks for sharing this info. I'll update the BIOS & video driver, & check whether that solves the issue.

I was just thinking, if this issue is with my HDD. I hope, it is not.. Happy

I'll work on updating the drivers & share the update.

Thanks,
Dinesh
