Interesting thing about blueray/hd dvd

Mar 4, 2006 8:49AM PST

most of you probably knew this, or it was discussed in another thread, or read this somewhere....but this is the first time i heard about it and other people might be interested.

hd dvd's are only 15gig as appose to blueray's 25gb. but hd dvd's has the capability to be up to 60gb's (using both sides and a "few layers"). think about watching a movie that fills up at 60gb disc. 0_0

another thing...companies will actually start producing commercial movies with regular dvd on one side and HD dvd on the other side. that means in a litle bit of time......all you need is buy one movie and it'll work for regular dvd players or HD dvd players which is very smart for hd dvd manufactorers and will please consumers quite a bit in my opinion.

lastly.....samsung has a hd dvd PLAYER ONLY comming out for only $1k. panasonic and toshiba has burners comming out too for around $1k or a little more if its not already out. yes, its $1k+. but...they will all play CD's, AND DVD's too. that means for early adopters, all you'll need is one unit to do everything. (accomplished with 2 lasers. one red, one blue-ish violet. much like when ps2 first came out..one lazer for dvd and one for cd). if u ask me, $1000 isnt too bad...if it is a VERY good dvd player plus be hd dvd or blueray compatible.

what are your thoughts?

HOW MUCH BETTER CAN MORE GIGS IMPROVE???
Mar 4, 2006 9:53AM PST

if 1080p is the best resolution a hdtv can display, will doubling the amoung of gigs improve the pic that much? can the quality of the dvd movie exceed the capability of the hdtv to display it?putting different formats(sd/hd) on a single dvd sounds interesting, but probably not very pratical. it would cost more then a reguler hd dvd(recorded twice) and why would those who own an hd dvd player want a standard recording of the movie.personally, i welcome panasonic's foray into the hd dvd player market. whether they're successful or not, the competition will keep prices down and prevent sony from cornering the market.
