interent connection has gotten slooow...

Nov 14, 2008 2:17AM PST

...over the past couple weeks. I can't figure out why though. I don't think my internet is infected with anything as the rest of my pc is still running just as fast as normal. Nevertheless, I will run a scan with Spybot, Avast, and Ad-Aware and hopefully that will catch something and solve my problem. I've also tried clearing my tempt files, all private data including cache, and even a few different browsers including Google Chrome, Firefox, and IE. All of these are slow; I have a wired broadband connection. There is also one more strange characteristic of my weird internet. In addition to being slow, a lot of times the page will simply fail to open, and I'll have to click 'try again' several times before it finally manages to work. I would really appreciate any advice on what else I could try t fix this???

Updates + Poor Internet Service = Slow Computer
Nov 16, 2008 2:18PM PST

I also have the same complaint and I am almost sure the cause is not malware, overabundance of temp files and cookies or a badly needed defragmenting.

I am certain it has something to do with my internet service, Verizon, and many updates; some of which I know are necessary.

I also am going back and forth between 2 browsers: IE7 and Firefox. Both have been stripped down to the bare minimum.

Shortly after installing DSL, I noticed slow-downs during certain times of the weekdays: between 3 & 4 pm then again between 7 & 8 pm. After these hours, everything returned to normal.

I blame the updates also since after downloading SP1 for Vista, my computer performed faster. This lasted about 4 months. Every month after a pile of updates, I noticed its performance was a little a slower. Today my computer is back to pre SP1 speed.

For now I have done everything I know to do. I wish I could keep my house as clean as I keep my computer. Along with One Care, I also scan with MBAM and Eset on-line scanner, CCleaner and SuperAntiSpyware once a week. I only install Urgent and Important updates.

I am considering cable internet service since it is faster, but that would be at least another $50.00 per month!

For now I am taking a "wait and see" attitude.
