General discussion

intel vs. AMD

Jan 27, 2005 12:31AM PST

I repeated this in this forum hoping to quick a quick response!!

I'm looking for a comp in the smaller local stores trying to save money rather than go to the big box guys...and this salesman has been pushing the AMD semphron..saying that it is better than the Intel celeron, Is this true? He says that any low-end AMD processor will definately beat the performance of any Intel low end processor. Um, what do you think of that. Where should I go to save money, the smal neighborhood pc stores, or just go to bestbuy or circuitcity?? Intel or AMD ??? I apreciate any responses you guys have

Garron, Please Give Us Specifics

In order to accurately compare one processor against another, it would be nice to know the EXACT Celeron and Sempron. Sometimes there are "reviews" on the internet which describes testing that was done on each processor.

You'll always get those individuals that have a strong preference for one brand versus another...In my case, I like to compare the entire computer package as a whole...The processor is only one part of the deal..

Hope this helps and let us know more.

Depends on how much $'s you desire to spend.

The Sempron is AMD's replacement for the older Duron line as its " value" processors less expensive to the Athlon series. A Tomshardware article of July 28, 2004 also states, "Intel has taken the value processor lead with its recent launch of the Celeron D processor." However, read the 'conclusion' in Tomshardware and note the performance tests by Anandtech including the 'gaming'.
