Intel to AMD Motherboard

Jul 13, 2005 3:51AM PDT

I am upgrading my Intel based motherboard to an ASUS A8V Deluxe with AMD Athlon 64 CPU. My plan was to retain my 2 hard drives, peripherals, and case/400 watt power supply to use with the new board. Now I am hearing I will have to reload Windows XP Professional for this to work and then reload all my applications. Any thoughts from experience out there?

Excellent site you have compiled here. Sounds like I should be able to reconnect my hardware and follow your instructions to reinstall over my existing WinXP and be off and running. Of course I have backed up everyting using Acronis TruImage on my second drive.A review of the Microsoft site for XP doe snot show any recent AMD or ASUS issues so that's a good sign. I think I will write up my expereince once I'm done and find a place to share for benefit of others.

I wouldn't count on that trueimage backup to work on your new system. I always burn my files to cdr or cdrw. It's the only safe and sure method that I know of.
Best of Luck
