Question

Intel Rapid Storage Technology Update

Jan 4, 2015 4:38AM PST

How do I actually update the driver for this? I have win 8.1 and task manager says IAStorSataSvc (32 bit) (intel rapid storage technology) is using 277.8 MB of memory (it was over 1,000 last night) and .4% of the CPU. My version is 11.50.1207 and forums indicate this version eats a lot of memory and the driver should be updated. How do I do that? There are two versions that can be downloaded, f6flpy-x86.zip - for 32-bit versions of the operating system and f6flpy-x64.zip - for 64-bit versions of the operating system. Win 8.1 is 64 bit and the IRST says it is 32 bit, so which one do I use? Once I have the right one downloaded, it is a zip folder with 6 files. How do i update the driver? Double click on one of the .sys files, the largest one (there are two, one smaller than the other)?

Clarification Request
Sorry but why is memory CPU use an issue here.
Jan 4, 2015 6:53AM PST

To do what it does it must use the CPU and RAM. As to update, I can't guess where you got it but you can look for the usual setup.exe and run it.

HOWEVER the .zip's you noted are for making F6 Driver Diskettes and not used to update the system at all.

A Setup file also did not work
Jan 4, 2015 10:04AM PST

After this post, I downloaded SetupRST.exe 13.2.4.1000 and tried to run it. Got the following error. "Intel Rapid Storage Technology Failure. The Setup program ended prematurely because of the following error: this platform is not supported."

That means exactly what it said.

What brand of computer
Jan 4, 2015 10:20AM PST

do you have ? Wouldn't you get that from them?

The intel site here => https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?DwnldID=24293 states ..."IMPORTANT:
Before installing this application or requesting technical support from Intel, first contact your system manufacturer. They typically provide software which is specifically configured for your system."

Dell Serial ATA Driver Download
Jan 5, 2015 7:09AM PST

I found on Dell forums that the Serial ATA driver covered the IAstordatasvc update. It is older than the driver on intel (from 2013), but the download setup from Dell actually worked, whereas the newer version wouldn't from intel. I guess this issue is resolved. Thanks to all for getting back to me.

That's the way ya do it , Go to the manufacturer and load what's supposed to be there and that's whats supposed to work. Keep it simple.

Rarely.

There is no set schedule for such software because by its nature should be stable. There are a new bunch of PC users so conditioned to updates that we have to repeat the stories about driver updating. In a word, no.

Updates
Jan 6, 2015 6:23AM PST

If you have a dell you have to go to dell support and look for it under your model, service tag, etc. A bunch of stuff will be listed, but it is hard to say if you "need" it. At the same time you can download their automatic update support app and it tells me I don't need any updates. Basically, it seems you are on your own. I just keep asking for advice on forums and if something isn't acting oddly, I don't mess with it.
