Question

Intel HD Graphics 3000 - a problem or just his abilty?

Jul 13, 2012 9:06PM PDT

Hi guys,

i bought Dell inspiron n5050 with Intel HD Graphics 3000(i3 2350m 4 giga RAM ) a few months ago and just to be clear it's my first personal leptop

and my very first experience of the integrated graphics.

My question is what the expected performance and quality from this type of graphics adapter?(i've tried to play a few games including football manager 2012,FIFA 2012 and game of thrones and they all worked really bad on very low graphical settings and for those of you which don't know those games they have pretty avarage graphics evan bad).

What should be the settings for best performance? Battery life is secondary.

Does adding more RAM will improve the performance and quality?

Answer
In short, no games.

Or rather games such as card games. Action, 3D games are beyond what this system can deliver.

And no to your last question.

And again no to your next question about if you can change the card in the laptop (there is no card.)

Hi Bob,
Quick search on YouTube will discover that games such as GTA IV,Battlefield,COD and etc can work on Intel HD graphics 3000 because of this i came up with my question.
To your statement about the connection between RAM and integrated graphics i will suggest you to try to understand the idea behind integrated graphics - a section in the processor which provides the graphics in simple words, this leads us to the conclusion that if the processor have more RAM the graphics section will have more RAN
still looking for proper answer.

I didn't write it would not run.

However gamers tend to really be upset with the performance or ask if more ram can be added. In current systems with this, there is NO EXPANSION possible for the dedicated RAM for the integrated GPU.

I could look at the Intel document on the chip and give you a painful exacting technical answer but each time I've done that folk want to ask if there is anyway around that. So after a few hundred times I've learned that since there is no upgrade for such we reach an impasse where the new person that has the same old question wants to be shown where the limit is to prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that we can't add more ram to the GPU.

If you want to go down that road I can do it but be aware it does not upgrade the situation and after over a hundred times I am more than willing to go find the document but why do that again?

Igp

In general an Igp does not game well.
Intel has a 4000 Igp that seems to compare with some low end Gpu's.
Not something a gamer would use but I suppose for light gaming......should work.
Assuming you have the proper drivers installed.......you might want to look into all the unneeded stuff that the machine is running.
Some machines have a boat-load of that crud........acts like an anchor.
