Question

Intel DX38BT 3 beeps no boot

Mar 28, 2015 8:47AM PDT

(system specs:win 7 32bit, had saphire 3800 series took out to replace wiht gefprce gtx 950, 4 gigs or ram with a 2.3 quad core)

was having issues with video card so I figured I could get a bit of extra life outa my board by ugrading. Orderd new vid card and 8 gigs of ram. Took out old card put in 1 stick of ram and replaced old card wiht new one (gefprce gtx 950) hti power supply button to turn on power, no need to hit on/off switch it just started and gave me 3 beeps with no video and no access to bios. Looked up beep codes and found it had/has? to do with memmorie? so ive tried a million and 1 diferant configerations witjh the new and old memmorie sticks to no avail all it does is beep when I hit the power supply switch. sometimes it will shut down on its own and restart with the same 3 beeps sometimes it just shuts down. Any help would be great and thanks in advance.

Clarification Request
Look at the Intel motherboard document.

It seems to me that https://www.google.com/search?q=Intel+DX38BT+3+beeps should find this.

It says memory. How much memory have you changed over the years? Is it plugged in proper? Also, who built it? I've found boards, years old with metal posts hitting the back of the mainboard.

Yeah I had found that as well but,

I built it. This is the first time I have touched anything in side my case. I got 4 new sticks but only replaced 1 to start with. but at the same time I also replaced the vid card wich I regret now cause idk if its the card that caused the problem or the memmorie. I did find 1 post on the net that said the same thing and they said that they had to try diferant configs for the memmorie after it happend, which I have also done. no matter what I do with the mem I keep getting the same thing.

I'd still pull the motherboard out.

I've run into boards that the owner dug in their heels on pulling it and found extra mounting posts causing issues. They do ask why it worked for years. My guess is that it finally wore through some paint/insulation.

A single stick should work. But the story has me thinking of years at the shops and findings like this.
I already mentioned setting of the RAM, same for video card.

all the ram I have. 4 new sticks and messed with the old ones. ive tried 1 stick in each slot by itself and then so on and so far. i guess the board is just beyond use or is there anything I can do? It has been a good board for the little I use it for, hate to see it go. Sad Happy

The last thing.

Is the old cardboard test. At the shops we found good boards that owners had pulled out. The old stud issue seems to be a recurring cause.

ok

so if what your saying is just from sitting in the case for thse years untouched that the vibration from fans and such just wore down some solder or paint on a contact point that should be shielded? I think I am just going to spend the money and build a new one. ive already gotten a new vid card and from what ive been reading I think I can pass with this 1333 ram for the time being in anything I get that new.

I not only said it but wrote it.

Seems a shame to replace boards without this last test. But some owners are itching to get a new board.

Cant think of the name of it. maybe an antac idk. i know i spent a good penny on it at th time. its got all sorts of supply cords that are interchangable and you are able to disconnect them and add and subtract ones as needed, i wanna say it was a 750w one but cant realy remember
