Question

Intalling a system from a backup

Aug 31, 2015 4:25PM PDT

I don't consider myself to be a newbie but the question seems like a newbie question. I have my system (Win7) and all of my apps backed up onto an internal hard drive. I have removed my main hard drive and have put a new hard drive in its place. Normally, I would have to insert my Win7 DVD and then all of my apps. My question is how do I access my internal drive that has my system back up on it. I have the DVD which I used for the backup (Paragon Hard Disk Manager 14 Suite). Do I insert this or what do I do?

Answer
For this we open the Paragon manual.

It's at http://download.paragon-software.com/doc/manual_hdm14suite_eng.pdf

Page 10 notes restore options but here's the issue I see. Why bother installing Windows? This full backup can't restore apps alone. And if we restore from full backup, the restored system will have an OS to boot from.

I'd think about the method on page 199.

I think the computer newbie forum is where I belong. Why, well because I already had the manual in PDF format somewhere in my computer. You know when all else fails read the directions. But, after reading the pertinent parts of the manual that you suggested, I still find myself somewhat confused. (nothing new there). And if all else fails, I can always start from “scratch” that is, install Win 7 from my DVD. I don’t have many apps. What takes the most time is installing all of Microsoft’s updates. That is a real pain. All of my data is on another internal hard drive and backed up on external hard drives and on 128GB usb “drives”. Since I seldom use this computer (saving it for when my eMachine gives out), I will probably just play around trying out what comes to mind at the moment.
