Question

Insurance Claim Replacement Laptop

May 4, 2015 5:56PM PDT

My insurance company has offered to replace my old HP Pavilion DV7-4131SA laptop with an HP ProBook 470 G2 G6W60EA. I'm not convinced that this is the nearest match that they suggest.

My main concern is that I'm being offered a business led laptop in place of the entertainment based Pavilion, and as such I question the graphics compatibility in particular. The Pavilion is ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470 Graphics (switchable) whereas the ProBook is Intel HD Graphics 4400 & Dedicated AMD Radeon R5 M255.

I'm also concerned that I'm losing some entertainment features including sound quality and memory card input. I welcome any advice and suggestions for a more suitable replacement. Thanks!

What are the circumstances behind the insurance claim?

What are the conditions stated in the insurance policy concerning replacement? Don't forget the small print!

Here in the UK many insurance policies limit replacement of lost/stolen/damaged items to original cost of the item less devaluation, unless the policy specifically states otherwise.

We are also often told "take it or leave it", and if we don't like the offer we can expect a protracted and expensive process to get the insurance company to improve their offer.

Thanks for your reply Mark.

It is a genuine claim that has been accepted on a like for like replacement. I was just hoping for some advice from someone who knows more than me about compatible specifications, in particular the graphics and speed for playing online games.

Thanks

Answer
I can use google to find GPU mobile sites.

I use this on google.

Notebookcheck hd 5470

Now while we could check out the 4400 the m255 will be used for the 3d game or such so google.

Notebookcheck m255

In comparing the 2, "Cinebench R10 - Shading 32Bit" looks to show that the m255 is a step up in GPU power.

-> Sound quality? Toms squashed that idea at http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/high-end-pc-audio,3733.html
I don't expect this to be better or worse.
