The screen "Bezel" will come off and some Dell models can be a royal pain to get apart.(Plastic tabs after screw removal)... You need to be sure all Rubber style plugs on the "bezel" or Screen side are removed, Look to the thin outer edges for any other covers that may have hidden screws beneath and starting at the bottom is usually the best option for getting the ring or "Bezel" off.[Plastic ring in front when looking at screen]. Next thing to do is locate a hinge and I'd suggest contacting Dell parts for the components. You will also need to take 2-3 screws out on the bottom of the unit to release the plastic panel between the keyboard and screen assembly. (Hinges screw into the base).. Reverse process and all is well.
Notice how many times I state, "Bezel"
I have a Dell Inspiron E1705 (17 inch).
The hinge itself isn't really broken. It's something in the monitor housing near the hinge that snapped/broke. It's probably something that holds the front of the housing to the back. The first problem I had was that when I would close the laptop shut, the 2 layers would be separated.
I could grab the corner with my fist and then squeeze it shut. Then a tiny gray or silver cylinder fell out of it (I have since lost). Things got looser and worse. Then one screw fell out, then another (I have them). Now things are not tight enough around the interior hinge 'paddle' that this paddle won't rotate up within the housing.
The paddle is in the closed position. It is strong. I can't reach it with pliers because the housing is in the way.
Anyway, I have figured that my solutions are to either-
search a used replacement part on ebay
see if I can order a replacement from Dell.
I think I can figure out which part needs replacing if I get things open.
I have removed a total of 8 screws from the inside front of the monitor housing.
Are there more screws?
It's not coming apart easily.
I read on another thread for a different brand, where a tech mentioned that there is doublestick tape holding the front to the back.
Are there any websites with instructions for disassembling the dell monitor?
Many thanks in advance!
