instant message from outlook express

Oct 27, 2004 9:04AM PDT

I used to be able to double click on any of my contacts in outlook express in the contacts window and start a "IM" window to that contact, but now when I double click on my contacts, a send new email window opens to that contact. I tried locating the online tab in the tool menu (from what I was able to find at outlook's help)but my contacts menu does not even show a "online tab" to check or uncheck, so I am asking if anyone out there can help me in setting this up so that I can use "IM" from outlook express 6.0 on my windows xp sp2 box. Thank You

What Instant Messenger are you using? Is it Windows Messenger, MSN Messenger or some other software?

Have you recently changed from Windows Messenger to MSN Messenger? Tell more and maybe someone can help.

I am using "aim" messenger service, I have no problem using "aim" only from the contact list in outlook express.

billg448,

I am unfamiliar with Aim Messenger Service and how it inter relates with Outlook Express. I do know that the original Windows Messenger had this feature in OE. When I changed to MSN Messenger 6.2 this feature is no longer available in Outlook Express to show which contacts are online. Like you I sorely miss it. The answer to your question may be it simply does not work with AIM.

Sorry I cannot be more helpful... maybe someone will assist both of us in regaining the feature.

Best of luck!

Glenn
