Hard to tell

You failed to give any kind of system specifications, so there's no way to know that you're not running say a Pentium-233MMX with 64MB of RAM, which probably would take all day.

It shouldn't take all day

Are you doing a clean install, a repair install or an upgrade? Were you having problems with your computer prior to installing XP?

New bare bones system

New hard drive. everything New. I Think I might have a bios setting that is wrong or a bad component.
