Installing xp home edition over xp professional

Hi, i am trying to re-install XP HE over an unauthorized copy of XP Pro, why is it that when i reboot from the disk & i come to press F8 to agree with the terms nothing happens & all i can do is press escape to abort.

My system is a P4 2.8 with 520meg of memory & an 80 gig HD.

I am also fairly new at this sort of stuff.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions. John.

You have some USB thing or other extra item plugged in during the install.

Bad news...

Microsoft won't let you downgrade from Windows XP Professional. Reason? It's Microsoft. Unfortunately this means that you'll have to back up all of your data (including favorites, saved games, etc), format the hard drive (click for instructions), then perform a fresh install of XP Home.

Hope this helps,,
John

Have backed up all the data i need & have read your link to the instructions for formatting a HD but i think i might have to re-read them quite a few times before i'm game enough to try it or if i'm really non-plussed about it all take the bloody thing to an expert.

Thanks again guys for responding to my question. John.
