Installing WinXP in a WinME machine

Mar 15, 2004 7:23PM PST

I would like on my WinME computer to clean install WinXP after reformating it first. All I really care to keep from my old system, are the email addresses and messages in the Outlook Express.
What is the easiest way to back up those addresses and messages? To make it even more difficult for you, let me tell you that there is not any CD-RW available on board.
Anyone cares?

Use floppies or get a USB portable drive. They are reasonably priced and come in a variety of sizes.

OK but can you describe how to do it? What is the procedure of backing up the email address file, where is this file etc?

Use any search engine and type in:
HOW TO MOVE ADDRESS BOOK TO ANOTHER COMPUTER
and you will get many detail instructions how
to do this. If you are using MICROSOFT INTERNET
EXPLORER; Just use the search line.

If you are going to install XP with the NTFS, you should
be able to tell it to do a clean install of the operating
system and when it's finished, all your folders will still
be on the drive. So it's a simple matter to import the
address book and even all your old e-mail. That's what
I did, if I'm remembering correctly. But all your old
programs might have to be reinstalled to work.
