Question

Installing Windows 10 on new hard drive

May 5, 2017 2:38PM PDT

I'm sure this has been beaten to death, but I do need help. My hard drive's failing. I need to reinstall Windows 10 Home (Digital License from the free upgrade) of a new drive. I know I need to download the Media Creation Tool to a USB drive, and am doing that now. Once that's done and I install the new drive, do I simply boot from the USB drive and install, or is there something else more involved I'm missing?

TIA, Paul

Answer
It can be as simple as that.

I like how I don't have to search for the CDKEY anymore. So install and after the OS is installed go to your PC maker's site for drivers (for the things that don't work.)

I've never used the Media Creation Tool before; I assume the install will format the drive as well?

It could.

My method is to start with a blank drive with no partitions so I get the best fresh start.
