Installing surround sound speakers

Mar 15, 2011 10:35PM PDT

I just moved into a house that has a home theatre room with 5 speakers built into the wall. The setup looks correct as there are three speakers in the front and two in the rear. There are three wire bundles coming out of the wall for the speakers, two of the wire bundles have four wires each and one of them has two wires.

I don't know anything about hooking up this system and would appreciate any help anyone can give me. Do I need some kind of special audio box to make this system work with my Samsung LED television?

Thanks,
Mark

all we can do is to give it a educated guess. The 2 wire bundle is very likely the "center speaker", and the 4 wires bundle would be left and right front and left and right rear. I don't know what test equipment that you have if any. If none and you don't want to buy any then post back. Maybe someone can recommend some other simple way.

My guess also is that there are no subwoofer speaker in this setup.

Special audio box?

Well, yes. These speakers require amplification. As such you need a surround sound system. As in a receiver. This receiver will take the audio output from the TV or your cable/satellite/whatever and route it to the speakers. The TV, by itself, will not drive the speakers.
