You forgot to reveal the Nero version but some of these can corrupt the OS and cause a lot of problems.
There are free CD/DVD recording apps over at Ninite.com which may fill the bill.

I have an old version of Nero. It installs on my 32bit laptop. When I try to install it on my 64bit desktop, the windows installer takes over and screws up and it cancels the installation. both machines are windows 10
