Question

installing programs not desinging for XP

Hi

I am trying to install a DAW program called Pro Tools on to win xp, but the message displayed when trying to install is as follows

"the insulation package cannot be installed by the windows installer service. You must install a windows service pack that contains a never version of the windows installer service"

Dose any one know what this means please?

Sorry about that. XP 32 bit would require SP3. XP 64 bit would be SP2 but XP64 is rare, a PITR and even I don't write much about it even though I tried to run it for a year but finally bailed out.

XP was 32 bit.

And if it notes SP3 then it's installed.

There are so many reasons for the install to fail. The most common one is the OS is non-stock as to the SERVICES that XP usually runs. I can't guess if that applies here. You are running a legacy OS so you must master this area.

https://www.google.com/search?q=XP+INSTALLER+SERVICE&gl=US for example.

If the OS is damaged, then you will continue to encounter this and many more errors. At some point folk end up either wiping out and starting over (most folk) and some that know they should backup (and do so) restore to their last good backup.

Then we have folk that don't check the version of ProTools they are installing. I had one client that had to bring it in (cha-ching for 150USD) and it was that. Sorry buddy, we told you what it was and you brought it in so there's the charges.
