Installing new windows

If I install a new version of windows on my PC will I lose the information on drive D

You unplug drive D: and install Windows to drive C:.

Plug drive D: back after installing Windows.

But... you will probably need to reinstall the software that is installed and running from drive D:

This is just one of many repeating scenaios.

If the drive was prepared with a hard disk utility other than Microsoft's FDISK (and even then), such volumes have been known to vanish even if the drive was unplugged during the new OS install.

If it's something worth keeping, then you need a copy somewhere else other than a hard disk.

You don't need to look too far to read the tales of woe. Please don't add another.
