Installing New Ram

Jul 2, 2017 9:44PM PDT

My computer is a HP Slimline S5-1010 from 2011. The max capacity of RAM is 4gb and currently I have 3. I tried installing 2 new sticks of Hynix 2gb 1RX8 PC3-10600U-9-11-A1. When I boot the computer up it just beeps, but when i put in the original ram (2GB & 1GB 2RX8 PC3-10600U-999 HF) it works perfectly and doesn’t make any noise. They seem to both be the same, but it just doesn’t work. Is there any way of fixing this?

Try this one stick at a time.
Put the stick in the first slot and test.
Put the stick in the second slot and test.

Repeat with the second stick.

It’s still beeping, i even checked the codes but nothing comes up on what it is. First it’s one short beep, then one long beep, and a 3 second delay then it starts the loop again of the 2 beeps

What does that mean?

What did you do?

Indeed, the troubleshooting guide doesn't say anything about the meaning of beeps, so that's a question for HP's customer service.

Did you read the instruction on replacing memory in http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c03317456 ? Is the memory of the right type (page 13)?

Yes the memory is of the right type, it is not buffered and non-ECC.

How many times have you installed RAM?

I worry you didn't plug it in correctly. Have someone help you that has done this before. Before you burn up the PC.

I have not installed RAM before and it is my first time, but i did make sure everything was secure and tested the RAM carefully so it wouldn’t burn or electrify any components.

Too much or too little force

Can result in those beeps. Watch videos (YouTube) on installing RAM so you get the idea of what to look for. After your first few upgrades you know what it feels like when a DIMM/SIMM/Stick slides home.
