Question

Installing new memory

Jul 2, 2017 4:03PM PDT

I realize there are so many posts and ive been reading and reading to try and fix this thing. But i cant seem to get windows running after installing some new ram. Looking at the cmos setup utility, i can see my ram is being read. Ive tried and tried to change the frequency and the timing but it doesnt change it after ive saved the settings. Ive checked the motherboard out..it supports the amount of ram. Ive got the 64 bit i5 processor which supports the ram i have.

On startup, it rapidly beeps at me for a few seconds, turns off, turns back on, and tell me it failed bc of my frequencies and stuff being off.

What the hell am i doing wrong?

Trying to install 2x 8gb 1600mhz ddr3 10.10.10.27

Motherboard is a gigabyte ga-h55m-ud2h

I5 660 processor@3.33ghz

Clarification Request
Is the RAM XMP rated? Labeled as such?

Tinkering.

When i look at my MIT current status, everything im changing doesnt show up. Ive changed my timings to 9.9.9.24 and it shows 8.8.8.20

It shows all 4 ram cards, and it shows the frequency still at 1333 even thougb i turned on the xmp and it says its supposed to be at 1600

All that tells me

Is these are incompatible with XMP and this board and BIOS.

Or the motherboard is flawed. Does Crucial.com have this ram? If so, try that next.

Looking around there is XMP 1 and 2.

Maybe more details but my take on this discussion is "incompatible."

I didn't write it won't work, just you may have to settle for working not at top speed.

Answer
Wrong ram

It looks like your mobo supports 4GB ram per slot.

Still not working
Jul 3, 2017 6:02PM PDT

I went back and got 4x4. I tried 2 sticks, then 4 sticks, neither works. Ive updated the bios. Every time i try to set it to the xmp1 it gives me an error saying system has experienced a boot failure because of overclocking. Current cpu speed 2.8 current bclk 133 mhz current memory speed 1333mhz

try 100 mhz

and underclock the CPU for now.

When i change anything it doesnt show up on the mit current status...do 8 have to save and exit or something?

I dont know where my last reply went..but for some reason, any changes i make arent saved to the mit status screen.. its all still showing the defualts. Do i have to save and restart for things to take effect?

Nvm

I just restarted and its changed. So i figure the answer is yes, i have to restart cmos to see changes xD

Changing the mhz to 100, i still get the "starting windows" screen with no logo being presented and it freezes there.

maybe time to short the BIOS
Jul 3, 2017 7:50PM PDT

If you can open the case, find the jumper that allows shorting the CMOS chip, it only takes a moment for the short to reset it to default values. Try then booting without going into the BIOS and changing anything. Hopefully it will be set to Default values and you can tweak to Optimal Values later, checking each change with completed boot before trying the next speed tweak.

go with Rob's suggestions then

If it can't boot at default settings, you have obvious RAM problem going on. Sometimes it doesn't hurt to have a known good, low speed stick of RAM for testing a computer with, which fits the same slots, when the faster RAM is suspect.
