Installing new hard drive on windows xp pro

Mar 7, 2004 2:10PM PST

Hello all,

I want to buy a new larger hard drive for my pc.

I want to know if I use norton ghost to transfer all of windows xp over to the new drive, will I have to reactivate windows xp?

I have made major changes before on my windows xp box before and have had to reativate it.

I don't want to sit on the phone with microsoft again.

Thanks,

Shawnt

A single Hard drive change should not trigger a reactivation. Just to be safe copy the wpa.dbl file in your C drive (use search)to a floppy and replace after the install.

Thanks I have copied wpa.dbl file to my back up drive.

I do have a internet connection. I just went through the process of reactivation on line not to long ago because I upgraded the mother board on my pc.

I know if I have to reactivate I will have to call ms.

Thanks for your help.

In all the reinstallations that I've done activation can be done online if you have Internet connection.

It is automatic and takes a couple of seconds.
No need to phone Microsoft unless you do not have Internet connection.

From what I heard, if you copy or clone your C drive, that will signal an activation signal. It makes it look like your making illegal copies.
