installing modem in linux

Hi,
can anyone please tell me the method of installing a modem in linux?? I have an internal modem( conexant internal 56K data/fax/voice modem card from Dlink- DFM-560IS++) .The OS is Red Hat Linux 9. also plz tell me the exact driver that i have to download, if any...also plz give the URL......

But I found the easy out was to obtain a serial-port connected modem. Not expensive and works every time.

WinModems are 'dumb modems' are far as linux is concerned

Hiya !
I , myself , have only sparse experience with the Linux OS , but I can tell you that Linux doesn't get along with Win-modems ... Most users use a plug-in modem card to use with Linux ... A device they can program , hence the 'dumb modem' monicker applied to Win-modems ... Who knows , whenever I eventually get connected (web-wize) I'll know more ...
In the meantime , check out Distrowatch.com for little snippets of advice thru their links ...
