Installing Dell Media Direct after XP is installed

Oct 18, 2010 6:14AM PDT

I have a Vostro 1500 and had to install a new hard drive. I've already installed Windows XP then I discovered that my CD/DVD drive would not play movies. I have the Media Dircet software but do I need to reformat my hard drive? When I try to run the install it says "Hard drive has not been prepared for installation". Will I lose everything I have on it and have to start over again?

Thanks for your help.

Re: playing DVD's

VLC-player from
http://www.videolan.org/vlc/ is free, can be installed right now and plays DVD's. Seems easier to me than reinstalling XP.
