General discussion

installing a new power supply

Jul 8, 2006 6:53AM PDT

not to sound too naive, but what is involved in installing one?

can i do it myself, or do i have to drop cash to have it done? i hope it's the former and not the latter.

u just have to know the type of psu u have to buy as theres like different variations for motherboard power connector. once u know u just got to buy one that meets the specs. to remove old just disconnect everything that is connected to powersupply (moterboard, hard drive, optical drives, etc) and plug the new one in to all the connectors u removed.

And. . .

a safe method is just remove the PS, take it to a store and make sure the new one has the same connectors. There will be four screws holding it in place. It'll be heavy so don't drop it on the motherboard.

Good day,
Being a novice myself....Check out the section on Cnet's Video program "How to do it" there is a topice that deals with both installing graphics/video cards and power supply. You may get a better ideal thru video presentation...
