Installing a new 200 Gig Hard Drive

Jun 9, 2005 10:55PM PDT

I have a compaq presario SR1200NX. I purchased a new 200 Gig Maxtor Hardrive to install in it. The disk that came with the drive will not work in Window XP and when I called their support, they suggested I use the Windows XP disk to format the drive. Since the software came preloaded I do not have the disks and have created them. Since I have to do all of this I elected to upgrade to Windows XP Pro at the same time. When I format my new drive it assigns it to drive H instead of C, and it is the only hardrive in the case. It places CD's, Jump Drives, Memory stick drives ahead of the boot drive. I have installed a lot of drives in DOS and Win 95 and 98. What am I doing wrong and how can I correct it. My 40 gig is full and I need to get this new one up and running and transfer my files to it. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Herschel
