Question

Installed Weathermate - can't uninstall

Aug 30, 2016 7:46AM PDT

Installed Weathermate, didn't like it. Tried to uninstall - failed. went to control panel / programs - not listed. Tried at least "5" different uninstallers, none "found" the program to uninstall. Downloaded another "copy" from a different source, installed same, then tried to uninstall - no luck. Windows 10
Thanks in advance.

Answer
Took a look and it appears to be tough to remove.

Since I don't have a guinea pig machine I can only share ideas since the google on how to remove is peppered with MALWARE warnings.

That is, outside of trying REVO UNINSTALLER which you didn't call out specifically I think you may have malware installed. Use Grif's advice to scan and remove this and more.

-> Once that's done if it's still there, MANUALLY delete it's home folder and remove shortcuts and startup items.

Yes - I did try Revo - no go

Revo has been a long standby, I did download the latest version, if there is such a thing.

Will try malware scan - do have Malwarebytes and I will also look at others per "Grif"

Does not look to be an installed program.
Just delete the folder.

UPDATE!!! IS IT THIS ONE?

That's one of the simple apps that do not need an uninstaller. You just delete it, and the shortcuts.

I don't know how long you have PC'd but this is the old(?) classic app. I love those things and have authored a few over the years.

Why make an installer when it's a small app?

PS. There's a good and bad Weathermate.

That's why I had to ask.

No Need to Uninstall - understood

Good / Bad wethermate? Downloaded one from Major Geeks and the other one from cnet downloads. I see now that its called "portable", so yes, delete shortcut, remove from auto start with autoruns, and remove any mention from "C:\" I see its also listed in registry but decided not to go there.

Weathermate listed "Austin, Texas", but I live much closer to a weather station that shows in another "weather app". Was just looking for something better. Used to have "Weatherbug", which I put on my "sisters" windows 10 computer, but for whatever reason "Weatherbug" won't work on my windows 10 computer. I currently use "8 gadget pack tools", which for the most part works for me. Puts "temp" on desktop, which is what I want, can glance and see it. Since I go walking every day, its convenient to see the weather, and the chance of rain, etc., before I go outside.

Understood - That's why I try and make sure I "uninstall"
Aug 30, 2016 2:43PM PDT

unwanted stuff that I download. Usually, I use Major Geeks or File Hippo. Sometimes when things seem to get messed up, I don't hesitate to reformat my computer. Takes a little time, but then the system is back to the way I want it. That's why I posted the question to begin with, I want a "clean" system, even though I don't hesitate to download software to try and get what I want my system to be like and to get what I want.

Thanks again for replying

"not" for maybe out of the ordinary stuff - like WeatherMate, or 8 gadget pack tools, or Weatherbug, Microsoft works, etc., etc., etc.

Then the other site I've used.

I go to the softwares homepage

If I want software, I usually download it from the homepage of the software and then do a custom install to make sure nothing other than the software I want is installed.

I can't use download com any more.

I tried some title and the malware invited its friends. What a mess. Thankfully it was on a test machine which we could do a factory reset. Download.com support failed me and my long and short answer is don't go there.
