Installed RAM problem

Apr 10, 2017 2:39AM PDT

I cleaned my pc and take out every thing then put them back on perfeclty.

I have 2gb x 4 stick of ram

Once my pc start up i looked at the System info and it only shows:

installed ram : 7gb ram ( 5.68 gb usable )

I have 8 gb ram and 8gb usable before and now i got 7 and 6 gb usable!

What i tried to fix it:

I seperate those 4 sticks then i tried to find out what memory sticks is fried so i put the RAM1 to the 1st slot and RAM2 on the 3rd slot then i start the pc and it only shows 3gb and 2gb usable and same with RAM3 and RAM4

What i think is the problem:

I think i fried the motherboard RAM Slot.

If anyone knows how to fix this it would be very great so i dont have to waste my money buying new motherboard or ram Happy

Time to boot up another OS

And see what it reports. Since it's over 4GB you'll look for 64 bit versions.

How to make, boot and use Linux for this test is on the web so I'll pause here.

Bios

You enter the bios at startup.

Go through each section until you find the ram.

It shows up in different places depending on which bios you have.

Found it i think :

Base Memory : 64OK or 640K ( not really sure )
Extended Memory : 6126M

Im sure thats the menu ram we're talking about because i go to the through all the menu and is doesnt show there. If im not right i can just give you the motherboard model/name :
GA-990FXA-UD3

6126M = 6G. That's not 8.

If these same sticks are fine on another motherboard, it's time for a new motherboard. If the sticks don't show the full capacity anywhere, it's the sticks that are defective.

WARNING.

Not all PC's accept the same memory. There are many types.

And certainly not all neighbours would appreciate it if you damage their PC by experimenting with your sticks. I strongly advice to find a repair shop to diagnose and fix it.
