Question

Installed new motherboard and nothing shows on monitor

Mar 15, 2018 5:40PM PDT

Installed a new motherboard, H170 Pro gaming, and nothing shows on the monitor after powering on. The PC also can't be turned off or reset by pressing the power button on the case. It worked fine with the old motherboard.

H170 Pro gaming
I56600k
GTX 1070
8Gb ram

Thanks

Motherboard mounting. The most common reason is the builder forget to remove extra posts.

Also a full parts list

Since a subpar PSU will also do this. As to power off, hold the power button until it powers off.

Idk

I'm not sure what you're asking

I take it you did not install the new board.

Stop applying power until the person who did the work can be asked about motherboard mounting posts. Extra posts can cause this and burn out the new board and CPU.

I did.

The pins were preinstalled in the case so I've never even thought about them. There are no extras touching the board.

It's a common fault.

You left out the parts list. I'm getting the idea this is all new to you. Parts list please and don't assume the installed posts are correct. Remove and only add the ones you KNOW are needed but for now, build it again without a case.

Ok

I've rebuilt it outside of the case and nothing changed. If by parts list you mean everything I have it's
Nvidia gets 1070 SC
Intel i56600K
2 sticks of 4gb ddr4 2133 RAM
H170 Pro gaming motherboard
1tb hard drive
Cx750m 750w psu

Make it smaller.

The i5 6600K has onboard graphics so we don't need the GPU yet.
We only need one stick of RAM and no drives.

https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/H170-PRO-GAMING/ shows onboard graphics so we start with that.

If this fails, go ahead and carefully remove the CPU and ask yourself if it feels good when you reinstall the CPU. Be sure to look for a bad CPU socket. Some folk drop the CPU into the socket, bend a pad and game over.

I've tried both.

I know the cpu is installed correctly and I've retried multiple times. The onboard graphics don't show on the monitor either. I'm using 1 stick of ram and have tried every slot individually.

OK, something very simple. I'm not there to check.

"ATX power connectors (24-pin EATXPWR, 8-pin EATX12V"

Are both power connectors used? Sometimes I find a new builder to skip the ATX12V.

How about the CLRTC connection. It should not be connected to or jumped.
But go ahead and jump it to clear the CMOS and then remove the jumper and try again.

-> https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/H170-PRO-GAMING/HelpDesk_CPU/ seems to note an old BIOS could have troubles. Sadly if this is the case, the motherboard has to be returned.

I can't find the close jumper. Would reinstalling my old motherboard and doing something with it then fix a bios issue?

Autocorrect CMOS*

CMOS*

The BIOS is on the new motherboard

So what we do on the new motherboard won't correct this if the BIOS doesn't support this CPU.
