installed ms office 2003, can't open or retreive files

Jul 2, 2005 5:08AM PDT

Whe I open Word this error message appears{ Word cannot open this document template. C:Program Files\...\Lookup_9.dot.

I can key text and save it in My Documents. But I can't retreive the saved document. Error message {the file is a template is not available.

When I try to close Word . . . the following messsage appears:
Changes have been made that affect global template,Normal. Do you want to save those files.

I copied the following ***help info from CNET. I tried it, but when I search for the Normal. dot, there was no outcome.

***I don't think you lost your files. You just can't open them for some unclear reason.
Start with deleting all occurrences of normal.dot you find on your machine, and try again. If the problem persists even without the presence of an old normal.dot, post again with full and exact error message.

WORD/COM ADDINS - NOTTHE PROBLEM
Jul 3, 2005 4:26AM PDT

I read and executed the commands re: whether any Word Addins have been installed. When I opened the Templates and Addins dialog box in Word "Normal" showed up in the Document template text box. In the Global template and addins Box "lookup_9.dot is in the text box. It is declicked, when I check the box and click the add command on the right nothing happens when the "Add template dialogs box appears. It will not let me put any text in the File name Box.
I also added "Com Addins" to the Tool Menu nothing happens.

I want you to know that this retreiving problem of files affect all of the MS Office software-Excel, PPt, Access excluding "Outlook". Outlook work fine.

Can any one help me some one

I have not found out why can't open or retrieive my files in My documents.

You declared the add-ins were not the cause.
Jul 8, 2005 4:58AM PDT

But what I've found is that they often are. And if you look around Google, the common cause is the addins.

But you dismissed it so that's that.

-> Did you wipe Office from the drive along with the addins and install it cleanly?

Yes, I did

Did you wipe Office from the drive along with the addins and install it cleanly?

Yes I did.

I don't know where the problem exists! Word error messages still says: The file (This is a test.doc)file name is not available.

Word shows in Option dialog box, File locations,
file types: Documents. file Location (path) on my computer: C:\Documents and Settings\MSM\My documents

I wonder if Word is not reading the path to find the saved files because this problems occurs in Word, Excel, Access and PPT. I do not know how(what file) to setup the correct path to find my saved documents.

I will use Goggle re: addins. I didn't completely dismissed anything. I know that repairing these troubles are trial and error. I will try any help to solve the problem. I want to thank you for any assistance that I get to solve the problems.

You used the ORK tool?
Jul 8, 2005 6:00AM PDT

There is a Office Cleanup Wizard in the ORK (Office Resource Kit) that cleans up leftovers that an uninstall doesn't. It's quite rare to run into someone that uses this tool.

It still looks like leftovers to me.

"Note You must have administrator rights to run the Removal Wizard. If a user does not have administrator rights, you must log on as an administrator and run the wizard with the proper permissions.

You can run the Removal Wizard in one of three modes, depending on the degree to which you want to clean up users' hard disks:

* Aggressive mode

Removes all Office-related components, including components shared by more than one Office application. Before installing Office 2003, you might run the wizard in aggressive mode for users who are upgrading from a variety of Office versions. In aggressive mode, the wizard marks all items listed in the OPC file for removal."
