installation problem on my hp compaq nx9010 laptop

Jun 12, 2010 3:25AM PDT

First I deleted my hard drive using dban hard drive nuke because im giving my computer away as a gift. Then I tried to install windows vista with an installation cd (unofficial) but got a bsod. So I tried ubuntu 10.04 lts as an Os but it doesn't install at all. It seems buggy, and I have a hard time trying to enter in the region and location. I get the gui but this "save page" dialog box keeps popping up. Should i run dban again and start fresh or what. Even the radio buttons flicker sometimes when im inputing info. plz help!

error installing ubuntu

It was actually a message("save screenshot") that would'nt go away, so I could'nt install it. I have a very old machine, so I decided to try fedora 13 from an image file burned to an dvd. This worked better than ubuntu, being that i was able to install it, but i was having problems getting video to play through youtube, and my pointing service had problems pointing correctly on my laptop. I tried installing the current adobe flash player,it downloaded but it had problems installing. So I picked up a copy of linux for dummies and currently using the distro(fedora 7) that came with it. It works better than 13 execept for the darn video! Whats going on! I'm in the process of swapping out the cd/dvd combo pack. I have an hp compaq nx9010. plz help. I'll write down the error messages in the future to be more specific.thanx.

try youtube-dl

Script.
It is CLi program that allows to download yt videos with command:
youtube-dl http://www.youtube.link
I am not sure is that program in Fedora 7 repos or not.

IMO you should try to stay with as new version as possible.
If you feel lag try to use XFCE desktop environment.

p.s. I use Fedora 13 too. Wink

Linux distro. I do advice to download their Live Distro and give it a spin. With a CD you could determine how your system like the way is set up.

As mentioned before, give a spin to Mandriva Linux 2010, the new release is supposed to come out on Jul 8th.
