Ouch, stay clear of this one. It's not ready if they don't document how.

I'm currently running Windows 8. How do I install Windows 8.1 over 8.0? Will it be part of Windows Update or will I have to do something else?
Thanks for your help.

The only version of 8.1 that's available at the moment is a pre-release version that's only for very skilled Windows experienced people to test. The official date for the general public will be the middle of October, and it will be downloadable initially from the Windows store. Whether it will later become available through Windows update remains to be seen.
it will be available through the Windows store on October 18th.
