Good luck after that.

...then first, you'll need to access the BIOS to be sure that the CD drive is set to boot first in the boot order.. Then, simply place the XP CD in the CD drive and restart the computer.. The XP CD will boot and the first thing you should see is "press any key to boot from CD". Press the "Enter" key and follow the instructions in the link below:
http://www.windowsreinstall.com/winxphome/sp2installxpcdoldhdd/indexfullpage.htm
One important note: In order to make XP work correctly on the computer, you will need all the appropriate hardware drivers to install after the operating system is on the drive.. Video, audio, motherboard/chipset, ethernet, etc. It's best if you have all those drivers on a CD BEFORE wiping the drive and installing XP.
Hope this helps.

I read through a thread where you commented on someone downgrading from Vista to XP. I have done the same. I ahve a question/problem if you might help. WHen my HP Pavilion dv6000t CTO NB (P/N EZ796AV) had Vista, I could simply connect my projector and automatically the Pavilion and projector detected each other and the video woudl play through it. However, now, when I connect them, the projector does not even recognize that there is a computer connected to it. I have a NEC NP60 projector. I appreciate if you could help me out to solve this problem.
.since you've given us little information about the processor on your machine, which drivers you installed, or what you've done to try to fix the issue, it's hard to give more advice. I'd start with the motherboard/chipset drivers and the video drivers to see if that fixes the issue.
Did you open your graphics settings to make sure that a second monitor is enabled? I don't believe its set that way by default so you'll need to enable it for XP to see the projector. Open the Control Panel/Display icon, then click on the "Settings" tab. If the graphics support it, there should be a 2nd monitor displayed in the top section. Click on it, then place a CHECK mark in the box that says: "Extend my Windows desktop into this monitor". Click on Apply, ok, etc.
Did you write down all the Device Manager information BEFORE you installed XP? It will frequently help to identify if you have the correct driver for XP.
For example, there can be at least two different graphics drivers for the DV6000 and both of them are different.. See the links below:
Most of the drivers are listed here but the graphics listed here is the Nvidia GEForce Series. It works for most:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareList?os=228&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=1842155&lang=en
But some of the 6000 series use the "Mobile Intel 945GM Express Chipset Family Driver" graphics. If that's the case on your machine, see if the driver below gets it done:
Mobile Intel 945GM Express Chipset Family Driver
Once again, you need to know which device was listed in order to know the correct driver.
Hope this helps and let us know more.

Thanks. I haphazardly installed the device drivers. I am going to reinstall, from the beginning, reformat that is.
I didn't write down the Device Manager info before reformating. From what I can gather from my invoice, my computer arrived as such:
- Genuine Windows Vista Home Basic (32-bit)
- Intel(R) Core(TM) Duo T2250 (1.73 GHz/2MB L2Cache)
- 15.4" WXGA BrightView Widescreen (1280x800)
- Intel(R) Graphics Media Accelerator 950 - Core
- HP Imprint Finish + Microphone + Webcam
- 1GB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm)
- FREE Upgrade from 80GB 5400RPM to 120GB 5400RPM !!
- LightScribe Super Multi 8X DVD+/-RW w/Double Layer
- Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network w/Bluetooth
I don't know if this includes what you are asking me (remember, I am computer_schlemiel). I am not sure else to say about the machine. I wasn't sure which set of drivers were appropriate for my machine, so I installed all the drivers on the Software & Driver Downloads pages for the dv6000, dv6000t and the dv6200 (my actual product number is EZ796AV and dv6200 is what comes up on the hp page). I spoke with Sales (Support is not willing to do anything but from the book and there ia cultural barrier as support is in Asia and Sales is in the USA). Sales told me to use the drivers for dv6000t. That's that. I am starting over and will install all drivers and the DVD Decoder (that wasn't mentioned an any site and I had no idea that Intervideo Win DVD does that). If any of this stuff tells you which video or graphics drier I need, please respond as soon as possible, as I am intending on doing this tonight!
I did not have any question marks in my device driver list or hardware that wanted to be installed. All seemed happy on the PC.
Can you recommend an order to installing the drivers, at least the important ones? Should I install Service Pack 2 before or after the drivers? Does it matter?
Did you access the graphics settings and make sure the second monitor was enabled?
It appears like you have the "Intel(R) Graphics Media Accelerator 950" graphics device and the driver link I provided earlier is the one you should use.. In regards to the order of the driver install, here is the post where I mentioned the order I used:
After wiping the drive and installing XP, I installed the drivers in this order:
1. Nvidia Chipset and Network Controller Driver
2. Microsoft Audio BUS Driver
3. Conexant High Definition Audio
4. Mobile Intel 945GM Express Chipset Family Driver
5. Intel INF Update Utility [INFINST_AUTOL.EXE](Must Be Downloaded separately from the link below if you have the Intel Chipset which it looks like you do.):
INF Update Utility [INFINST_AUTOL.EXE]

Then I installed the rest of the stuff in this order, I think: Synaptics touchpad, the wireless driver, the ethernet driver, the modem/FAX driver, the Ricoh 5in1 Card Reader, HP Quicklaunch buttons, and finally, the HP Wireless Assistant.
Hope this helps.

I rewiped, and reinstalled. I could not install in the order you recommended. There were files required by the driver for the audio that were missing and also, I had to find a usbehci.sys file to install one of the intel drivers and there was some other funny stuff. I could not figure out what the first file you referred to was. CAN YOU PROVIDE A LINK TO THE "1. Nvidia Chipset and Network Controller Driver"? Is that exactly what it is called or is that short hand for one of the files on the HP page? There is an NVIDIA driver, but it is not described/named as such. The NVIDIA I am referring to is "NVIDIA GeForce Series Video Driver". Also, I made a master list of all the drivers for the dv6000t. It might be useful for others out there and can be downloaded at http://exittoafrica.com/vistasucks/
During my installation, using your recommened install order, at least 3 of the drivers that you listed required a file that did not exist or would not install correctly. Probably just some quirk on my machine/software. After trying the list in order, I decided that maybe Windows Service Pack 2 (SP2) would help. So, I installed that and then installed all the drivers again. That seemed to make a big difference. Then, only the driver that required the usbehci.sys file would not install correctly. BUt, I found that file and then it installed fine. I ended up installing everything on my list except the Juan TV driver. I am not sure what that is.
However, I was eventually able to completely install all drivers and so on. I was able to get a copy of Intervideo WinDVD. A copy of Quickplay is not included on CD with the Pavilion or available for download, which would be really nice. I also figured out how to use the projector. It was as you said, I simply had to select it from the graphics card by right clicking on my desktop and selecting a setting that for the monitor. Vista automactically did this when the computer was connected to the projector, XP does not or at least my settings don't.
Thanks for your awesome posting and replies. It really made the difference.
This is the list of drivers I actually installed. They are in order by RELEASE DATE not the order that I installed them. Also, this list does not include a few drivers/support available on the HP page, like other languages and so on. The number corresponds to its listed order on the HP page. Again, I compiled a more detailed summary of this list here http://exittoafrica.com/vistasucks/ as well as the usbehci.sys file.

...can be found by checking the HP link I provided earlier. If you clicked on that link, HP already had a fairly comprehensive list of XP drivers. Here it is again:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareList?os=228&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=1842155&lang=en
Look in the "Driver Chipset" section and you'll see the "Nvidia Chipset and Network Controller Driver". HP lists the actual filename as "sp33411.exe " and this particular file was required here in order for USB and other motherboard items to function. If you didn't install it, that could explain why you had to hunt down the other "usbehci.sys" driver.
Here's the direct link to that driver:

Hope this helps.
