General discussion

install new video driver

Aug 28, 2005 1:14PM PDT

Windows XP
Radeon 9600 series

I have just downloaded the Catalyst 5.8 driver for the above video card, is the control panel in with the driver or can I download seperate and install seperate. ( notice the control panel file name is the same as the driver ?????).

In add remove I notice I have the following
ATI software uninstall utility
ATI Haydravision
ATI control panel
ATI display driver.

Can I delete 1 2 and 4 but keep the control panel which saves downloading it.

thank you

Well...

If you click here, go Windows XP->RADEON->Catalyst 5.8, and look under ''low-speed connections,'' you can download each part individually, including just the display driver. As far as keeping the old control panel in concerned, I'd say it's probably possible, but not recommended. A new version of the control panel was released earlier this month along with the new drivers, and they are meant to be used together. While the old control panel and new software/drivers may cohabitate well, there is an increased risk of family feuds. Even over dial-up, it wouldn't be that bad downloading individual 10MB files, so I'd suggest downloading the entire package for the best results.

Hope this helps,
John
