Install Lock-up

by tpalmertree / May 24, 2007 9:24 AM PDT

I am installing Windows XP Pro and it keeps locking up at "Setup is starting Windows"

I have a Celeron D 3.46 with 1 Gig of RAM.

Can anyone give me a clue why this is happening.

I just up graded to a new CPU, RAM and Board and am reinstalling (from a freshly partitioned HD) a a version of XP that I was using before the upgrade, so I know that the CD is good.

Thank You for any help you can provide.

1. The CD was for some HP or other machine.
2. There are USB devices plugged in.

Details are too sketchy. Can you supply more details?

I am installing with just the CD, HD, Video and FD attached. Nothing else. The copy of Windows is an original licensed to me.

What hard disk? PATA, SATA? What XP? SP2 I hope. What caused you to change the motherboard? Maybe the ram you recycled is bad?

Get some detail in your posts. At the very least what the forum note asks for.

While you write what your wrote one owner was in denial for too many posts and we came down to an OEM XP CD for a Emachines. Yes there is a license from them to you but that is and was the issue for them. Don't skimp on the details.
