Since you tried the install s/w it suggests you're using what came with the printer of checked the support website. At the support website HP DOES NOT have win8x drivers. Thus no HP supplied fix at this time. But, it offers what is suggested with this link:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c03785459&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en
Next, if you follow that advise you may get lucky. However, under win7 when the same applied to older HP printers having worked with older OS like Vista, etc., you allowed the install procedure under win7 to access the internet and allow it to check for drivers. What happens in this case it usually finds the MS supplied drivers that offers basic operation and not include all the bells and whistles depending on the printer or AIO involved. The same applies to win8, so try it that way. The only other method is the more "raw direct install" by pointing to the source of drivers found on your current install disc or folder/directory and see how it proceeds. Again, you may not have all the bells and whistles included but maybe the basics. I assume under raw install you know to navigate to 32 or 64-bit side of drivers and if so labeled, that it be English(I assume) install. Also, do this under the win8 "desktop" section as if using the old win7 type of install, in other words not an app or win8 typical front end "start". I hope this helps...
